UltraFloor turns a house into a home

SAINT Flooring has used subfloor preparation materials from UltraFloor to complete the first stage of a £500,000 new housing apartment block in Milton Keynes.

Background
Flooring and interior installer to the new house-build industry, Saint Flooring, has used UltraFloor DPM IT, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer and Level IT Two to complete the first stage of a 10,307sq m flooring project at an apartment block in Milton Keynes.

The challenge
Saint Flooring faced a number of challenges while working onsite. As well as following all Covid-19 government guidance, contractors discovered some floors in the apartment block and very long corridors were out by up to 10mm.

The solution
In order to install the chosen Amtico, domestic vinyl and carpet tile floorcoverings, the ground floor was scabbled to remove laitance, and after a moisture test was carried out, DPM IT, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer and Level IT Two were all applied.

A similar process occurred on the upper floors, with the addition of copper discs to remove contaminants.

Says UltraFloor: ‘DPM IT is a two component, solvent-free epoxy resin system for use as a surface dampproof membrane.

Designed to provide protection against subfloor moisture, DPM IT has a pot-life of 45-75 minutes, a cure time of five hours and boasts a 98% RH floor moisture tolerance.

‘Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sq m at 3:1 dilution, Prime IT multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.’

Continues the company: ‘There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.

‘With a set-time of 2.5 hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floorcoverings after just 12 hours, making it suitable for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time.’

Results
Work began in October 2020 and the first block was completed in December 2020 with fantastic results. Saint Flooring commented: ‘We can’t fault the performance or the finish. The subfloor was very porous so a DPM was needed more than anticipated but has worked well and allowed us to finish the job on time for the contractor.’
