ULTRAFLOOR, a manufacturer of high-performance subfloor preparation products, recently collaborated with the renowned flooring installation experts at Tricas Flooring to tackle a 3,500sq m project at the luxurious Voco Hotel and Spa in the historic city of Winchester.
Background
Nestled in the heart of the Hampshire countryside, Voco Hotel and Spa offers a tranquil escape from the stresses of everyday life. The hotel recently completed an extensive refurbishment project designed to elevate the guest experience and ensure the property continues to meet the high standards guests have come to expect.
Challenge
The ambitious hotel refurbishment project was carried out over several months, with much of the work happening behind the scenes while the hotel remained open and fully operational.
Solution
To begin, Tricas Flooring primed the concrete subfloor with UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer. Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer ‘reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sqm at a 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects’.
Owing to a leak, the existing screed in one bedroom needed to be removed, then levelled to a height of 50mm. To achieve this, Tricas Flooring trowel applied Level IT Base deep fill smoothing underlayment.
Says UltraFloor, ‘Level IT Base is a heavy-duty floor leveller formulated to build depths of up to 50mm thickness. Level IT Base also boasts a high compressive strength, is moisture tolerant and can receive foot traffic after just three hours.’
The remaining bedrooms, conference room, main bar and reception area were prepared with UltraFloor Level IT Two.
Continues UltraFloor, ‘There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.
‘With a set time of 2.5 hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floorcoverings after just eight hours, making it an ideal choice for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two-component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time.
‘Finally, Tricas Flooring applied Stick IT 500, Stick IT 542 and Stick IT 543 flooring adhesives to install the EDG Carpet, Karndean Van Gough and Forbo entrancing matting.
‘UltraFloor Stick IT 500 is a multi-purpose adhesive with high initial grab, which boasts an excellent final, and long-term bond strength for carpets and vinyls.
‘UltraFloor Stick IT 542 provides a permanent tacky film when applied to stable and smooth subfloors – the ideal adhesive for fixing carpet tiles and loose-lay PVC floors or floorcoverings with PVC backings.’
Adds UltraFloor, ‘Suitable for use in high temperature installations and areas of direct sunlight, UltraFloor Stick IT 543 is a pressure sensitive adhesive ideally suited for bonding dimensionally stable LVT, PVC sheets, planks and tiles in interior environments.’
Results
Concludes UltraFloor, ‘By combining their expertise, UltraFloor and Tricas Flooring were able to deliver stunning, durable and functional flooring that perfectly complements the elegant aesthetics of the Voco Hotel and Spa.’
On using UltraFloor, Alex Page, Director of Tricas Flooring, commented: ‘UltraFloor is the most cost-effective and efficient products on the market. The products are consistent and reliable, which gives me the confidence in knowing the job will be completed to the standards required, and on time.’
