AJAX Flooring company was founded in 1956 after Don Birrell had returned from the navy. Whilst he was away serving for the country, he was based on a ship named the HMS Ajax. Once he returned, he met up with old friend Len Clifford, who worked for a large department store at the time in Croydon, known as Allders. After discussions took place, together they decided to create Ajax Flooring Company which was originally based in Clapham Common.
Over the decades, the company has moved from Clapham Common to Brockley and relocated again to Crayford. Ajax Flooring became a company that were contracted by London Borough councils to carryout flooring installations within schools and public buildings. The company developed a direct working relationship with County Hall where they were given contracted work to complete. Ajax Flooring are also founding members of the CFA, known as the Contract Flooring Association.
Ajax Flooring Company uses the fact that it’s a family-run commercial business as its USP. Being a Southern based contractor, the areas of the country they work in are London, the South-East, and the surrounding boroughs. They specialise in laying different types of flooring such as carpet, vinyl, wood, and rubber. They mainly work in the commercial sectors including schools, social housing, public buildings, warehouses, and office spaces.
Ajax Flooring is a small family-run company consisting of 10 people and have 70 years of experience in the industry. Several of its floorlayers have been working for the company for over 40 years who provide a fast friendly service to its customers. The skills of the team within Ajax Flooring Company includes employees which have completed NVQs along with the longer serving employees who have 70 years of experience.
