Imperfection proves perfect for Oktra’s office

IVC Commercial’s Imperfection Bruut premium carpet planks have been installed in the headquarters of Oktra, one of the UK’s leading office design and build companies.

The 6 St Cross Street, London office of Oktra isn’t just home for the fast-growing and dynamic company but also a destination and showcase of office design for its customers. ‘An exemplar of a modern, high-functioning workspace, the office’s ground floor basement was recently refurbished to accommodate a new materials library, meeting rooms and extra open plan desking for Oktra’s growing team,’ says the company.

Naturally, Oktra turned to what it describes as its own highly qualified and experienced design team to create the new area. For its choice of flooring in desking, collaborative areas and meeting rooms, the office design and build specialist selected IVC Commercial’s new Imperfection Bruut carpet planks. Dominic Dugan is creative director for Oktra and was responsible for the ground floor basement design: ‘Our offices not only need to deliver a great place to work and collaborate for our colleagues, but also show clients how we understand the need to deliver office interiors that are agile, inspiring, and responsive, as well as supportive, inclusive and effective. I chose new Imperfection Bruut from IVC Commercial because it helped us achieve exactly this.

‘The carpet plank’s shape is away from the square norm and its design is unique. It has enough depth and detail to stand alone but it can also be used in combination to define zones and will hold its own in refreshed spaces of the future. The colour palette is highly usable, and this was important.
Not too flashy with an elegance that ensures longevity, and which appeals to visiting clients. It’s a well-thought-out product with a with a sustainable construction and a design that works for today’s high-quality office spaces.’

Dominic Dugan selected two colourways of Bruut, using the mid-grey of 911 and the lighter 959 to donate areas of activity and provide navigation through the ground floor basement area. A total of 595sq m of carpet planks were installed by Oktra’s own fit-out team.

Concludes the company: ‘As part of the Imperfection premium carpet tiles collection, Bruut is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wab-sabi – embracing the beauty of the imperfect. It’s one of three designs available and has been designed to emphasise the transience of materials through a textured effect. With ECONYL 100% regenerated nylon and 94% recycled EcoFlex Echo backing, Bruut is made with sustainable materials and supports wellbeing through good underfoot comfort, impressively quiet acoustics, and pure air quality.’
