Forbo celebrates 100 years of Nuway

FORBO Flooring Systems says it’s proud to celebrate 100 years of its Nuway entrance matting solutions.

In honour of this, the company opened the doors of its Telford factory, where Nuway is still manufactured today, to trade and local press.

First produced in 1924, Nuway has seen various developments across its 100-year history, beginning life as a rubber matting for cars and domestic kitchens, before becoming one of the market’s leading commercial primary barrier mattings today in 2024.

As part of the celebrations for this landmark milestone, Forbo opened the doors of its Telford-based factory to trade and local press publications for what it describes as a unique and insightful journey through Nuway’s history.

Says the company, ‘Led by Jason Holmes, head of design for textiles, the event encompassed an insightful walkthrough of some of the key moments in Nuway’s development and heritage, from its humble beginnings in ‘20s Birmingham to today, where a dedicated and experienced team of 21 produce the flooring by hand and to order.’

Donna Hannaway, head of marketing UK and Ireland at Forbo, said: ‘We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to show some of the local and trade press around the factory. Nuway has a storied history, which we felt was important to share with the local community and wider industry.

‘Through the centenary exhibition, we’re hoping to showcase the product’s heritage, its value, recognise the teams who’ve been involved in its production over the past 100 years and why it’s crucial we mark milestones such as these.’

The public open day took place on Saturday 5 October.
