Forbo Flooring Systems reveals winner of 2022/23 Forbo Escapes Competition

AFTER what it describes as another successful year, Forbo Flooring Systems says it’s delighted to announce the results of its 2022/23 Forbo Escapes competition.

Established in 2012, Forbo Escapes recognises the crème de la crème of commercial projects, which feature an inspirational use of Forbo floors. With a plethora of exciting and intriguing designs submitted to this year’s awards, it was as competitive as ever. However, there can only be one winner.

This year’s winner was Rhian Worgan, interior designer at Momentum Cardiff, for her work on the refurbishment of Newydd Housing Association’s offices.

Rhian specified a range of Forbo’s products, including its Tessera carpet tiles, Allura luxury vinyl tiles, Coral entrance flooring and Surestep safety flooring, to create a beautifully integrated flooring scheme – which displayed a clear understanding of the needs of each space and the role design can play in creating an office that positively impacts the performance of employees.

Rhian commented on her win, saying: ‘I’m absolutely delighted to have won this year’s Forbo Escapes competition. The project itself came out beautifully and I couldn’t be happier with the finished result and winning the competition itself! I’m looking forward to choosing my escape of choice now.’

Simon Hatcher, from architects Hatcher Prichard, won ‘highly commended’, with his eco-conscious design for Two Rivers Primary School, which went on to be only the second school in the country to achieve Passivhaus Plus accreditation. Within Simon’s design, he specified a variety of Forbo’s contemporary floorcoverings, including Tessera carpet tiles, Sphera and Eternal vinyl floorcoverings, as well as its Surestep and Safestep safety flooring.

Additionally, four projects were awarded ‘commended’ status, including Archwood House, a modern student accommodation block; two office refurbishments, one for video game developer Facepunch and the other Cadena House, a contemporary office space; as well as Riverside Terrace Level 3, which is a leisure and hospitality venue.

Karen Wilding, marketing communications manager from Forbo Flooring Systems, spoke on this year’s awards, saying: ‘It’s been another successful year for our Forbo Escapes competition, with a range of extremely high-quality entries received. In fact, it was difficult to choose a winner as all the projects demonstrated a really high level of skill and consideration to their designs.

‘We’d like to congratulate all the entrants from this year’s competition though, especially our winner Rhian. We were really impressed with how well Rhian combined various floorcoverings together, keeping the usage of each space in mind, as well as following the brief she was given. We can’t wait to see what entries we receive next year!’
