KEITH McGrath, Flowing Screeds Association (FSA) chairman, says the FSA’s commitment to raising standards in the flowing screeds sector is providing real value for members and for the industry as a whole.
The Flowing Screeds Association (FSA) is the trade association for all screed installers, representing the industry and promoting flowing screeds throughout the construction sector. Membership is open to binder and system manufacturers, screed contractors and applicators.
Driving up training standards across the sector, through the establishment of practical training courses is a core aim of the FSA.
If correct procedures are followed, flowing screeds, whether of the gypsum type or cement-based, provide the ideal surface for the installation of a top layer, which can be tiling, resin or any other type of floorcovering. But if best practice isn’t adhered to, things can go wrong, meaning it may not be possible to satisfactorily install a final floorcovering without further remedial work.
High quality training not only benefits clients by ensuring screeders are able to provide a reliable service, but it also enhances the overall perception of the flooring industry as a skilled trade. By establishing a structured training and registration process, the industry can elevate its reputation, emphasising the importance of expertise and quality craftsmanship.
‘A range of technical documentation and other information on flowing screeds is available to members through the FSA, as well as free credit checks, HR guidance and training courses for screed installers,’ says Keith.
‘The first training sessions were held during 2024 and more are planned. After passing one of the training courses, which are delivered in accordance with the relevant British Standard, BS 8204, screeders receive FSA accreditation, so their customers can be reassured their work will be carried out to the highest possible standards.’
As the FSA introduces new benefits, membership is becoming increasingly attractive and the role that the Association plays within the industry is more and more significant.
One of the latest developments which will provide a real benefit for members and the industry as a whole is the implementation of a new technical query service on the FSA website. Members will be able to access the service by email.
If you have a query or need further information about a product or project that involves flowing screeds, skilled operatives from the industry will provide you with appropriate unbiased information. It’s important to note this service is open to members and non-members.
If you wish to take advantage of the service, send your query by email to: membership@flowingscreedsassociation.com. Provide all relevant information regarding your query, including photographs where appropriate, and your full contact details.
There are also several benefits which are available to members only. For instance, all FSA members have access to a free listing on the website at www.flowingscreedsassociation.com, as well as free advertising through FSA channels, networking opportunities and use of the FSA logo on vehicles and marketing materials.
