Granorte Cork Steals the Show at CDW

Cork innovator Granorte took part in May’s Clerkenwell Design Week, showing its cork floors and walls at Workplace, Goldsmith’s Building.

Clerkenwell Design Week is the industry’s biggest design festival and attracts designers, specifiers and architects looking to explore new materials in the quest to design better buildings. For this year, a visit to Workplace at the prestigious Goldsmith’s Building unveiled the natural beauty, comfort and resilience of cork thanks to Granorte.

The Portuguese company, which has been innovating in cork since 1972, showcased its walls, floors and furniture, all made from the waste of cork wine stopper production. Demonstrating just how versatile the material can be, the company’s space was adorned with a range of highly decorative finishes, including striking looks for walls in the cork bark of Rusticork and the sculptured geometric 3d Forms, and durable, resilient and beautiful floors in Tradition, Naturals and Vita Classic.

The festival was also a chance to see the newly launched Heritage and Vintage collections. Featuring Granorte’s highly durable and proprietary WEARPLUS® high-performance coating with CleanSurface® technology, these floors utilise a natural cork composite core that harnesses the comfort, acoustic and thermal properties of nature’s wonder material. In Heritage this is matched to four digitally printed wood effects and in Vintage, a decorative cork veneer. The result is a floor that’s ready for commercial use that gives interiors a finish made with up to 89% natural cork.

Sophie Brady, Granorte, says, “Interest in our cork products at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week really highlighted the relevancy of the material for today’s commercial interiors. Natural and renewable, and with properties that enhance the comfort of people within spaces, we firmly believe that cork is a true wonder material. It was great to hear from many space designers reaffirming its status as a material that elevates workplace interiors beyond the ordinary.”
