Womble Bond Dickinson is a law firm with office locations throughout the UK and USA. Post-pandemic, the company was looking to refurbish its Leeds office with a view to creating a more agile and collaborative work environment for its 110-strong legal team. Interior design and build specialists ADT Workplace was appointed to provide CAT B & C fit-out services for the project, with employee well-being and sustainability at the heart of the design brief.
The design team has delivered a modern, high-specification workspace that feels spacious and welcoming. Three designs from Milliken’s Northward Bound and Arctic Survey cushion-backed modular carpet collections were specified to create a comfortable and contemporary aesthetic. Complimentary designs Ice and Snow from the Northward Bound collection are installed in the warm taupe tones of Explore. The designs’ tufted, red loop pile in solution dyed nylon provides deep, saturated colour and excellent stain resistance characteristics. Inspired by earth’s spectacular polar landscapes, with their rifts, cracks and glacial crevices, the Northward Bound collection provides gentle, organic movement that flows seamlessly through the floorscape.
Womble Bond Dickinson’s bright, expansive reception space features striking curved motifs that reflect and reinforce the company’s brand identity. Milliken’s Ice design’s tonal fractures work alongside drifting beautifully through the space. A central spine running through the building accommodates a variety of different workstyles, including formal desking, open collaboration areas, closed meeting rooms and more relaxed break-out spaces. Northward Bound’s Snow carpet design offers a soft neutral backdrop for this highly flexible workspace.
Milliken’s Isotherm carpet planks, from the Arctic Survey collection, have been installed to highlight the collaboration zones. Specified in lighter neutral shades of True North, the Isotherm design has a luxurious, multi-layered texture. The subtle shift in colour and texture complements and contrasts perfectly with the Snow design to define these spaces.
The exposed ceilings and more open nature of this new workspace meant that good acoustic management was particularly important. The Milliken carpet tiles’ WellBAC® Comfort backing helps enhance employees’ well-being by reducing much of the distracting noise of people moving around the space. Absorbing up to 36dB of impact sound, the carpet specification plays a crucial role in keeping the building quieter, calmer and ultimately more productive to work in. The backing also delivers excellent underfoot comfort.
Sustainability was a vital requirement for this refurbishment project. As with all Milliken floor coverings, thanks to its M/PACT Programme, the modular carpet installed in Womble Bond Dickinson’s progressive new workspace is fully carbon neutral. In particular, the Northward Bound collection is a Milliken D/Lux series product which means it performs at the highest level while using fewer raw materials.
