Newhey Carpets ‘set to inspire architects, designers as new partner at Material Source Studio’

Newhey Carpets says it’s delighted to reveal its new partnership with Material Source Studio in Manchester’s recently regenerated NOMA Hanover Building. Newhey will be showcasing a constantly evolving collection of its wool-rich carpets alongside more than 30 of the world’s leading built environment brands.

Material Source Studio provides the northwest’s architects and interior designers with an immersive and inspiring collection of products in a highly creative environment. The studio showcases everything from carpets to tiles, brassware to bathroom accessories and fabric to furniture – interior products and materials of every kind.

Says Newhey: ‘Newhey’s presence there will enable design professionals from the hospitality, workplace, healthcare, to residential, retail, education public sectors to view a carefully curated collection of the Rochdale-based manufacturer’s beautiful British made and designed carpets and also take free samples.

With more than 50 years’ manufacturing excellence and an inspirational in-house design team, Newhey has much to offer the northern design community. Joint managing director Howard Whitehead is tremendously excited by the new partnership. ‘We view this as the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our design, quality, manufacturing and sustainability credentials first-hand to the very people who make the all-important design decisions.’

Newhey is debuting at Material Source Studio with their recently launched Patina 2.0 collection, an extension of its Patina range. Its dedicated studio space will feature the entire Patina 2.0 collection, in six distinctive modern colourways, inspired by oxidisation and a vintage aesthetic. Every few months or so, a new collection will replace the existing one to ensure a continuous flow of fresh inspiration.

The Material Source Studio itself is purpose-designed for the creative community. In addition to featuring the individual studios of partner makers that are pushing the boundaries, it’s described as a catalyst for fuelling thought, discussion, ideas, and exciting collaborations. There’s also an 80-seat theatre, a 300-plus book library, an 18-person CPD studio, seven meeting spaces, a podcast studio, and a gallery.

Sustainability is increasingly important to architects and interior designers when specifying products for their projects. It’s also something Newhey builds into every single metre of its carpets, according to the company.

Clients can select Newhey’s wool-rich carpets with a clear conscience as all are backed with evobac – a material made from 100% recycled PET post-consumer plastic, as Howard Whitehead explains: ‘One square metre of evobac secondary backing prevents at least eight plastic bottles from going to landfill or entering our oceans; we’ve already diverted more than 14m.’

‘Material Source’ and sustainability resonate especially with Newhey Carpets as it uses ‘high quality wool yarns dyed by locally based dyeing experts and spinning partners located just 15m away from the Newhey factory. It’s this local supply chain that reduces shipping and storage, and therefore reduces emissions and energy usage which is great for the environment’.

Howard also adds: ‘The Manchester Metrolink tram network provides sustainable connections between Material Source Studios and our factory in Newhey with stops just a minute from both venues. Trams are every 12 minutes, so it’s incredibly handy to pop in to meet and discuss projects with existing and potential clients in person in Manchester City Centre.’

Design professionals visiting Material Source Studios will reportedly not only be able to feel the ‘superb quality of the natural wool carpets on display, they’ll also have the opportunity to help themselves to tactile free carpet samples for inclusion on moodboards to really bring their design schemes to life’.

Newhey Carpets says it’ll be in illustrious company too with fellow studio partner brands including Dyson, Cosentino, Karndean, Allgood, Crown and Britton.
