LOUIS de Poortere’s rework of a heritage design from its pattern library, Antiquarian Bakhtiari, has been chosen by award-winning design and build firm Modus Workspace, for the communal area of a London office.
Cain International is a real estate investment company with offices in London, New York, and Beverly Hills. Modus Workspace was commissioned to design a new interior for the company’s Upper Street, London offices and developed a scheme with a residential feel.
The company turned to Louis de Poortere’s Antiquarian Bakhtiari rug to add a layer of comfort and warmth in the relaxed seating area within the communal area. Working on top of a wood effect vinyl floor, the rug features in the Galata pattern.
Ali Mackechnie, project designer at Modus Workspace, says: ‘The vintage pattern and colours of Antiquarian Bakhtiari added a layer of warmth to achieve a more residential look, adding to the modern heritage feeling we were trying to capture.’
Galata has been revived from Louis de Poortere’s Muskabad archives of traditional Iranian designs, with the Belgian rugmaker said to be modernising the design through what’s described as a distressed effect and blue-orange colourway.
The company concludes: ‘Crafted from 100% cotton, the heavyweight rug is hand-finished and available in a range of sizes. It joins a series of reworked designs in Antiquarian Bakhtiari, with each design presented in bold and vibrant colourways for a modern take on traditional rug designs.’
