Fast-track smoothing compounds for care settings

FLOORING IN NURSING

WHEN replacing floorcoverings in an occupied care setting, such as a nursing home, it is important to minimise the time that areas are out of commission, in particular when requiring residents to remain inside or outside of their accommodation and dining areas are out of action.
Despite adding time to projects, it will still be essential to undertake proper subfloor preparation to optimise the appearance and longevity of flooring installations.

For these situations, it will be useful to have the benefit of fast-track solutions, including smoothing compounds that can be applied directly onto old adhesive residues (including bitumen and carpet tile tackifiers), which may be present after the removal of old floorcoverings.

One such product, Stopgap 1500 from F Ball and Co takes as little as 60 minutes to set and is ready to receive floorcoverings from as little as four hours, says the company, adding that in most applications, including when it’s applied over old adhesive residues, it’s not essential to prime beforehand, saving further time.

Smoothing compounds are also protein-free, ensuring there’s no breeding ground for bacteria, making them suitable for use in areas where infection control is a priority.
