DEVELOPED for the contract flooring and landscape sectors, LTP’s specialist ECOPROTEC range includes sustainable surface care products for all types of natural and engineered stone, for internal and external settings.
Treatments are made in the UK and benefit from advanced water-based technology, combining high performance with low odour and low VOC formulations, says LTP.
Two protectors also feature PFAS-free formulations – ECOPROTEC Porcelain Paving Enhancer and ECOPROTEC Black Stone Colour Restorer – with further reformulations planned for later this year.
PFAS-free formulations
Continues LTP: ‘The first formulation, ECOPROTEC Porcelain Paving Enhancer, is a water-based self-shine solution that gives tiles an enhanced ‘wet look’ appearance. It’s highly resistant to foot traffic, general wear and stains, helping make ongoing maintenance easier. The treatment is UV-resistant and, while glossy in nature, causes minimal change to a tile’s slip resistance properties.
‘The second protector, ECOPROTEC Black Stone Colour Restorer, is a water-based treatment containing a permanent colour-intensifying pigment. Applied in multiple coats until the desired colour effect is achieved – from dark grey to ebony – it restores the appearance of pavers faded by UV rays, humidity and rainwater, while providing ongoing protection from the elements.’
ECOPROTEC is working towards a comprehensive range of PFAS-free sealers containing no perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances.
Water-based solutions for inside projects
For tiles and stone laid indoors, the range includes two water-based impregnating sealers, a water-based wax treatment and a grout protector. Each provides protection from stains and strongly repels water, oil and grease, making ongoing maintenance easier.
Continues LTP: ‘ECOPROTEC Natural Finish Stone Sealer creates minimal change to the surface character, while ECOPROTEC Colour Enhancing Stone Sealer enhances natural colour and tonal depth. Both can be used on all types of natural stone.
‘ECOPROTEC Satin Finish Surface Wax creates a soft, subtle sheen on honed, riven and tumbled stone, while ECOPROTEC Wall & Floor Grout Protector provides a non-film forming protective barrier for grout.’
All four treatments are water-based, non-film forming and allow surfaces to breathe. They also offer low VOC, low odour and UV resistance, and can be applied over residual moisture, helping to speed application times, says LTP.
Water-based solutions for landscaping projects
For outdoor applications, the ECOPROTEC range includes Pre-Grout Protection – a water-based ‘pre-and-post-grout’ solution designed for external porcelain – and three stone sealers.
‘ECOPROTEC Pre-Grout Protection protects pavers from staining while allowing easy removal of residues from cement-based grouts and two-part resin-based jointing compounds, as well as stubborn organic matter.
‘The non-film forming barrier doesn’t alter appearance and helps improve working time while reducing the risk of cement and resin staining. It also assists with future cleaning and aftercare.
‘The three additional protective treatments are ECOPROTEC Ultimate Sealer, Patio Sealer and Colour Enhancing Sealer. Each is designed to protect natural and engineered stone in outdoor settings, including smooth, honed and rough-cut surfaces.
The water-based impregnating treatments strongly repel water, oil, dirt and grease, help reduce efflorescence and allow the surface to breathe.’
Continues LTP: ‘Ultimate Sealer leaves pavers virtually unchanged in appearance; Patio Sealer provides a delicately enhanced natural finish; and Colour Enhancing Sealer creates a more pronounced enhancement, bringing out the natural warmth, tone and colour of the stone.’
Why water-based treatments make sense
ECOPROTEC water-based treatments reportedly offer equal performance to their spirit-based solvent equivalents. ‘The water or spirit elements within a sealer don’t play a part in the actual protection,’ explained LTP’s Mark Atkins. ‘They just facilitate application and evaporate as the treatment dries.’
