Celebrating five years of UK-based manufacturing from its carbon neutral facility in Scotland, Shaw Contract EMEA will be showcasing its latest collections of innovative flooring solutions as part of this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week.
From its Great Sutton Street showroom, the flooring solutions designer and manufacturer Shaw Contract will be running a programme focusing on its People Together, Planet Forever approach to sustainable flooring solutions with its key points of ambition: enabling a circular economy; diversity, equity and inclusion; material health; and reducing carbon impact.
Inclusive design workshop
Each day of the festival, Shaw Contract will be hosting Inclusive environments: adaptive reuse and diverse legacies with architect and neurodiversity campaigner, Gillian Burgis-Smith. The workshop will explore the concept of neurodiversity and the constraints and behaviours it can impose on people’s experience of the built environment.
In this 30-minute practical session for Clerkenwell Design Week, Gillian will look briefly at some key considerations and practical applications for making environments more inclusive and welcoming, alongside exercises and ideas in practise workshop for participants.

Available in 10 on-trend wood tones and at just 5mm thick, Nordic can be used seamlessly alongside most carpet tiles without the need for transition strips. Featuring Shaw’s scratch resistant and maintenance friendly ExoGuard+ finish, Nordic is for heavy duty commercial environments including workplace, education, retail and multi-family. Floorscore certified for low VOCs, Nordic is Indoor Air Comfort Gold certified with a dual-purpose backing construction which allows for direct glue or looselay installation.
Shaw Contract will also be introducing its latest exciting innovations including a new Cradle-to-Cradle Silver carpet tile collection, made in the UK, heralding the next great step in its journey to combat carbon impact.
Enabling a circular economy
Also running each day of the festival, Shaw Contract together with magnetic flooring technology specialist IOBAC, will be running a taster session of its RIBA-accredited CPD seminar: An alternative solution in non-adhesive workplace flooring. A key feature of the discussion on enabling re-use will be the first-in-kind 15-year warranty covering the installation of Shaw’s UK-made carpet tiles in a second location when installed with IOBAC MagTabs.
