TREMCO’s high performance smoothing compounds allow for the application of all floorcoverings

Michelle Mendes, TREMCO market manager, says: ‘Engineered to provide a fully compatible system to the flooring sector, TREMCO’s high performance smoothing compounds allow for the application of all floorcoverings, across various areas.

Delivering a solution for the most complex installations, TREMCO’s dedication to developing new innovative smoothing compounds using the latest technologies, including new shrinkage compensating control systems, new flow aids, and low VOC emission polymers.

The range includes two-part latex underlayments – general-purpose, high performance, and moisture tolerant grades – as well as water-mixed underlayments, which can be hand or pump applied for heavy-duty applications.

A feather edge repair compound for the smoothing and repair of subfloors. The TREMCO range has a complete system for any type of subfloor application, with specialist floor screeds, from SR1 Finish, fibre-filled underlayment for flexing subfloors or difficult substrates, to everyday general purpose smoothing compounds.

TREMCO smoothing compounds are formulated to work in-conjunction with the TREMCO surface damp proof membranes and adhesives that are also available from the brand, providing UK contractors and the distribution market with fully compatible systems.

The TREMCO smoothing compounds range
The company has provided the following data sheet for readers:
The products in the TREMCO smoothing compounds range are innovative and ecological and include:

SX070 Feather Finish Compound
A rapid drying feather finish compound for interior applications, this is ideal for the smoothing and repair of subfloors prior to the installation of a floorcovering. It offers excellent adhesion to a wide range of common flooring substrates, including concrete, sand/cement screeds, plywood, glazed, and unglazed floor tiles.

  • Short setting and cure time, facilitating a fast-track program and minimising disruption
  • Can be used to repair ridges and depressions up to 12mm, or to achieve a true feather edge
  • Doesn’t require a primer prior to application
  • Excellent adhesion to a wide range of common substrates
  • Coverage: up to 50sq m per 10kg unit

SX100 Renovation screed
A fibre-reinforced, cementitious self-levelling flooring compound for interior application, SX100 is used prior to the installation of floorcoverings and works over a range of problem substrates including concrete, sand/cement, steel, wood, ceramic tile, quarry tile, plywood, and old vinyl tiles. SX100 has excellent flow and smoothing properties and, with an application range of 5-50mm, it can be applied by hand or suitable pump. With compressive strengths of more than 30 N/sq mm, it can also be used in heavy-duty applications.

  • For wood substrates
  • Fast application and minimum downtime
  • Contains special fibres to give excellent crack resistance
  • Suitable for laying over existing floor finishes such as tiles and flooring grade mastic asphalt
  • Suitable with underfloor heating systems (minimum cover of 25mm over pipes)*
  • Coverage: about 5sq m per 25kg unit at 3mm

SX302 Moisture-tolerant Latex Underlayment
SX302 is a general-purpose latex underlayment with a high degree of moisture tolerance for use prior to the application of a liquid applied dampproof membrane. It can also be used on dry floors, minimised adhesive residues, or on top of primed damp proof membranes prior to the installation of floorcoverings.

CS100 Epoxy Primer or CS190 Gritty Primer (for smaller areas or fast track installations) should always be used when applying SX302 onto an epoxy dampproof membrane. No primer is required when applying on to concrete or sand/cement unless particularly porous.

SX302 has a compressive strength of 25 N/sq mm and can be laid in thicknesses of 1-10mm. May accept foot traffic after about 90 minutes

  • Moisture tolerant for use under surface damp-proof membranes
  • Easy to mix and apply, a smooth surface is produced
  • Extremely low odour with no unpleasant ammonia smell
  • Coverage: approx. 5sq m per unit at 3mm
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating*

SX500 Rapid Drying Smoothing Compound
SX500 is a fast-drying, smoothing compound for interior applications. It is moisture tolerant, has a 40% recycled content and can be applied in thicknesses of 2-15mm. It has a compressive strength of 30 N/sq mm and will accept foot traffic from as little as 30 minutes and, with some floorcoverings from 90 minutes. With a 10-minute working time, SX500 is ideally suited to applications that require a same day turnaround.

  • Accepts both textile and resilient floorcoverings in as little as 90 minutes
  • OPC free, low odour product with 40% recycled content
  • Moisture tolerant
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating*
  • Coverage: approx. 5sq m per unit at 3mm

SX600NA Rapid Set Smoothing Compound – No Ammonia
SX600NA is a protein-free, moisture-tolerant smoothing underlayment that can be used over old adhesive residue in interior applications. Additionally, there’s no need to prime if being applied to a TREMCO DPM. The product has a walk on time of two hours and can receive floorcoverings after four hours.

SX600NA has been designed for levelling uneven subfloors and is well-suited to areas that require low odour products. It can be used under a DPM or over underfloor heating systems.

  • Suitable for most substrates, including ceramic tiles, asphalt, plywood, etc
  • Suitable for use over most adhesive residues
  • Moisture-tolerant – can be used under a DPM
  • Suitable for use over underfloor heating systems*
  • Walk on after two hours, install floorcoverings after four hours
  • Coverage: about 5sq m per unit at 3mm

Mark Bradley, TREMCO area sales manager says: ‘As a brand of CPG UK, TREMCO offers customers an extensive product selection, backed up by unrivalled technical support, from initial product advice to product training and onsite technical assistance.

‘Giving CPG UK customers confidence in using our products to achieve optimum installation results – our technical services team are on hand to help with moisture tests, installation advice, ongoing project support and much more.’
