DID you know many people still imagine vinyl floors to look cheap and unrealistic? In this latest chapter in our myth-buster series, Quick-Step looks to bust this myth and other misconceptions about vinyl tile and plank flooring.
In an online survey of 1,200 people in the UK by Quick-Step that asked about their opinions on different flooring types, some surprising misconceptions about vinyl flooring were revealed.
The leading brand is encouraging retailers to challenge consumer perceptions and become part of a band of flooring myth-busters.
According to respondents, who all took part in an online questionnaire, vinyl flooring has its upsides and downsides. Worries about quality, stain and scratch resistance, installation and not looking very natural, were all reasons for not thinking about vinyl as a floor for their home.
On the upside, many people believe it to be easy to clean, good-looking and comfortable.
With Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl flooring many of the worries of homeowners highlighted in the survey are nothing more than a myth, so let’s bust them one at a time:
Vinyl flooring is easy to scratch and stain
In the early days, vinyl flooring was easy to scratch and stain, but things have taken a huge step forward.
Says Quick-Step: ‘Now Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl has superior protection from scratches, stains, dirt and scuff marks thanks to its sealed top layer with Stain and Scratch Guard technology.’
Vinyl is costly and messy to install
Continues the company: ‘While stick-down vinyl floors aren’t without their drawbacks, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl features an integrated underlay and Uniclic installation for fast and simple fitting. The fast and easy way to a great looking vinyl floor.’
Vinyl doesn’t have the quality I want
It adds: ‘Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl comes with a lifetime warranty so quality is never an issue. What’s more, Alpha Vinyl is also 100% waterproof, thanks to Quick-Step’s innovative Hydroseal technology that makes the floor entirely watertight.’
Vinyl doesn’t look as good as a natural floor
The glossy, shiny and flat look of vinyl is banished with Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl, continues the company. ‘The natural knots, woodgrain and stone indentations are so authentic you’ll have to look twice. Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl also has an authentic depth structure and gloss and matt nuances that makes its surface look just like the real thing.’
The floor doesn’t contain recycled content
The company says it has the certification to prove it does. ‘In fact, every Alpha Vinyl floor with integrated underlay features a minimum 25% pre-consumer recycled content, independently certified by SCS Global Services (SCS-R-20324).
‘Since day one, waste PVC from within production has been used and now the Recover programme is also collecting from other industries, as well as installation offcuts and old floors.
‘Since it began, Recover has been used to ensure unwanted PVC from pre-consumer and post-consumer sources are used in all new vinyl flooring from Quick-Step. Now these common myths have been busted, it’s clear Quick-Step’s Alpha Vinyl flooring is suitable for homes wanting a floor that’s easy to install and easy to live with, all while looking just like natural wood or stone.’
Concludes the company: ‘So, next time a customer is a little unsure about whether vinyl flooring is right for them don’t forget Quick-Step helps you bust myths, one floor at a time.’
