TractionBack 2.0 means no adhesives for Milliken carpet tiles

MILLIKEN’s floor tile collections can reportedly be installed without the use of adhesives with its proprietary high-friction coating applied to the back of Milliken carpet tiles during manufacture called TractionBack 2.0.

Says the company, ‘TractionBack is engineered to secure the carpet to the floor and prevent lateral movement but can also be easily lifted and replaced when required. TractionBack drives down the environmental impact of Milliken’s carbon neutral modular carpet even further, by minimising the raw materials required for installation and eliminating potentially harmful VOCs.

‘It’s a cleaner, healthier, and safer method of modular carpet installation that positively considers the well-being of both the installer and the building’s occupants.’

Milliken continues, ‘Use of adhesive-free installation helps achieve a circular economy by assisting in recycling and reuse. Carpet tiles installed using TractionBack don’t become contaminated with adhesives or particles of subfloor which can hamper their recyclability. There’s also less waste and packaging materials to dispose of at the end of an installation and when the tiles are removed, the subfloor isn’t damaged.’

As part of its commitment to climate health, Milliken says it focuses on circularity and carbon reduction and so introduced adhesive-free installation options to create a faster, more cost effective and more sustainable method of carpet installation.

Adhesive-free installation is becoming a more popular method of carpet installation, particularly in certain regions where reuse and end of life considerations are particularly important.
